What is a veterinary alternative medicine consultation?
Veterinary alternative medicine can include multiple modalities for pain management as well as therapeutic exercises. In your pet’s pain management appointment we will assess your pet’s musculoskeletal system to determine what areas to target with pain control and therapeutic exercises both in clinic and at home. We will then work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan based on your pet’s individual needs and your goals for their lifestyle.
What does an alternative medicine appointment look like?
Dr. Haroldson will watch your pet move and perform a musculoskeletal exam to determine where the areas of pain are and which muscles are in need of treatment or strengthening. The information from this exam will be used to determine which modalities will be used to help relieve pain and develop exercises to fit your pet’s specific needs.
The treatments may include any of the following:
Acupuncture with or without Electrical Stimulation
Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT)/”Chiropractic” Adjustments
Photobiomodulation with a Companion Class IV therapeutic laser (Laser Therapy)
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
Massage
Therapeutic Exercises
What should you expect from a alternative medicine consultation?
The goal of alternative medicine is not only to offer pain relief but also to restore function post injury or with aging and to prevent further injuries from occurring. Ideally we will be catching abnormalities prior to your pet even becoming uncomfortable.
When should alternative medicine be considered?

Multiple sessions will be required for adequate response to treatments.
